Helping the Heroes

Brother and sister Robbie and Brittany Bergquist were just 13 and 12 years old when they heard about an American soldier in Iraq who ran up a $7,600 phone bill calling home. The story inspired Brittany and Robbie to start a nonprofit organization called Cell Phones for Soldiers.
Between them, Brittany and Robbie's life savings totaled $21, which wasn't enough for many phone calls from Iraq. But once others heard about their plan, donations started rolling in. Not only did people donate money, they also donated prepaid phone cards and used cellular phones. The cell phones were recycled to raise money.
By the time Brittany and Robbie received a National Caring Award two years later, they had raised more than one million dollars and sent 80,000 calling cards to U.S. troops in the Middle East. A lot of soldiers were able to talk to the folks at home?all because two teenagers understood the importance of keeping in touch.
Talking to the people we love means a lot. When we're confused or in trouble it helps to talk things over with a parent, relative, or trusted friend. For a soldier thousands of miles from home, facing the possibility of injury and death, a calling card to home is a precious gift.
We're living on a planet far from our heavenly home, but our Father has a direct line called prayer that's always open for us to use. Are you keeping your prayer line open?
